Besides educating her children, Hemalata plans to build her own enterprise

Along with the field officers of Mahashakti Foundation, I went to meet G.Hemalata, mother of Lalita, and a member of Maa Sarala self-help group in Bhuvaneshwar, on 16th of October, 2014. The woman sitting on the extreme right in blue sari is Hemalata. She had taken a loan of Rs 20,000 almost six months back from Milaap for funding the education of her daughter Lalita. She lives in housing board colony of Baramunda area in Bhuvaneshwar and runs a ration shop with her husband. Her children also assist her in running the shop. She appeared to me a very active and smart lady who knows how to go about her business and bring prosperity to her family. She says that the loan she had taken from Milaap was spent on the education of her child. Now she wants to further apply for the loan especially to buy shop items during the festive seasons when sales grow and she can expect to make a high return on the investment. The loan helped her ensure that Lalita could continue her education and not drop out of school.
